During the 2024 Emerging Leaders Leadership Retreat, attendees will participate in a plant tour workshop at Hanson International (St. Joseph, Michigan), June 25, 11:30-3:30pm EST, followed the next day by an in-person workshop, Team Building in Manufacturing, and an optional one-hour tour of Lake Michigan College Hanson Technology Center (June 26, 8am-3pm EST).
Facilitated by Senior Productivity Specialist Michael Wiseman of the Purdue Manufacturing Extension Partnership, this workshop will highlight how effective leadership can drive and leverage team development, cohesion and employee engagement to impact organizational health and bottom-line profitability. Workshop content will tie in tour highlights from the previous day and explore how emerging management professionals can cultivate the leadership skills necessary to support similar results in their individual company environments.

Cost: $499. Workshop registration includes a plant tour workshop at Hanson International, an in-person leadership workshop, lunch both days, an evening reception on Day 1 and light breakfast on Day 2. The workshop will include facilitated learning, peer-to-peer networking and hands-on activities.

During this plant tour workshop, key areas of focus will include 5-axis machining, high-speed milling, boring mills and pre-heat treat departments, as well as in-house engineering, inspection and die-cast dies. The tour also will include wire and sinker EDMs and M20s (partner mills) and staging, assembly and lead-man process.
In addition to department features and technology, tour guides will share the company's best practices in cross-training and employee development, as well as employee attraction and retention strategies.
The Retreat will conclude with an optional tour of the state-of-the-art Lake Michigan College Hanson Technology Center, which will highlight featured areas such as welding, CAD/CAM technology, robotics, automation and more. Attendees will learn how the Center works with Michigan companies to provide pre-apprenticeship credits, custom curriculums, community access to a local "Fab Lab" and more.
