2:00 PM – Power Your KPIs with BI
Lori Carson, Zeon Chemicals
This May, I mark my 30th year as an Environmental Safety & Health professional. Much like my peers, spreadsheets were my loyal friend throughout the years. To be honest, I still use them (make new friends but keep the old, one is silver but the other is gold), but my new best friend is Microsoft Power BI. I am going to talk about my experience learning how to use it. More importantly, I want to tell you how it has positively impacted our safety programs and ultimately why it has made my job as Director of Safety Health & Environment a little easier. Power BI is very user friendly after you stop thinking of it as Excel. It is easy to visualize large sets of data and create professional reports that can be shared throughout my company. In my team, we now spend more time analyzing trends than manipulating data into charts. This analysis has transformed our KPIs that used to be one boring Report Card. Now we have dozens of charts to help us share insights and make data-driven decisions that drive strategic action. By removing the human manipulating the data, reports are more accurate and update in seconds.
